Open Question: Will I be accepted as a transfer to Ohio State University?

3 December 2008, 8:14 am

Huge wall of text below, be warned. In a few weeks I'll be moving to Columbus, Ohio for a number of reasons. Mainly to lower my cost of living and find some work. But I also want to go back to college. This wouldn't be until Fall 2009 though, so it's a ways off. But I want to apply at OSU but I'm really scared that I won't be accepted and will have just moved somewhere that offers me nothing. I don't want to wait another year or two to attempt another move and try another college. So I might scrap the entire idea if my chances are slim. I'd be going there for their theater program, so I don't know if my transfer credits would even be worth a damn. Now here's the deal. I did Running Start at Cascadia Community College (Bothell, WA, linked to a UW campus) during high school. That was two years ago when I stopped attending there. My grades during high school were hit or miss. I had a really bad trimester during 10th grade that really trashed my GPA and my math grades were always low. Some of the bad classes during college transferred to my high school transcript with the Running Start program which dropped it even lower. But all things considered I did decent. I was an A average student in English, and at my worst a B- in everything besides math. All in all I ended up with a 3.176 GPA and absolute overkill on the amount of credits I needed. However, at the poor advice of a counselor I never took the ACT or SAT. He said it wouldn't matter because of my college credits and my math scores probably would end up looking poor. During my college course work it was again hit or miss with me. My overall GPA was a 3.06 with 75 credits. But it wasn't focused. My grades are as follows... Cinema 201: 3.6 Communications 203: 1.5 (this and the following was a double class, my first quarter, a huge work load, and I ended up being overwhelmed by it) Sociology 131: 1.5 Astronomy 101: 2.5 BIT: 2.5 Cinema 279: 3.6 English 101: 3.5 Chinese 101: 3.0 Humanities 113: 4.0 Political Science 101: 3.4 Chinese 102: 2.8 Cinema 211: 4.0 English 102: 4.0 Communications 150: 3.4 Psychology 101: 2.6 Note that I didn't take a language in high school until my Chinese college classes which ended up counting as a year of language on my high school transcript. So, bottom line is should I even waste my time? Are there any other schools in Ohio that have a good theater/acting program I could get into that don't require an audition? Thanks to all that read my huge wall of text and replied.... Read More »
